Our second week of participating in the challenge! Last week Kristina shared her book list and this week I'm taking a turn. Without knowing the science behind reading and repeating the same books on consecutive days, we have been doing this with our 2 year old son for the past few months and I have noticed a significant improvement in his vocabulary and ability to communicate, especially when we focused on books that contained one of his favorite subjects (sports or anything involving transportation).
This week we are re-reading some of our favorite Airplane Books!
Flying by Donald Crews
This book is similar to other Donald Crews classics with simplicity of images and words. It is also one of our most well worn books.
Planes by Byron Barton
Again, simple wording - simple graphics. Easy to memorize.
The Airplane Alphabet Book by Fred Stillwell and Rob Bolster
A must have/must read if you live in a household of airplane fanatics (which we do). The text is a little lengthy for a two year old, so we opt to just identify each of the airplanes that correspond with the letters of the alphabet. I am amazed each time I hear our children rattle off airplane names like: Messerschmitt, Dauntless, Yak, Lightning, Spitfire, and Vega.
Red Bird (Multi Sensory Picture Book) by Patrick Fort
This book is written in text and braille - all of the illustrations are elevated (so you not only see them, but can feel them). A fun book that is no longer in print, yet you may still be able to find it at your local library or purchase it used.
The Little Airplane by Lois Lenski
A classic. Beautiful pictures, simple story.
How lovely that you have also done a theme this week! We could collect quite a good selection between us all! I love the look of that multi-sensory book and it reminds me that I want to make something a bit similar with my own two at home.
