Week 3 of "the challenge". This week we have a "silly" theme:
Mr. Silly by Roger Hargreaves
We love all of the Mr. Men and Little Miss books - not only for their simple and fun illustrations, but the underlying message in each of them. I would love to own the entire collection! Did you know this series started by the author's son asking his dad what a tickle looked like.
Pickle Things by Marc Brown
Marc Brown is most well known as the creator of the Arthor books - but this books is by far our favorite creation of his (doesn't hurt that we LOVE pickles in our household). The illustrations are certainly silly, and the text is written in rhyme (so it is easy to memorize) . . . "Pickle things you never see - like pickles on a Christmas tree". Sadly, this book is out of print (that seems to be a trend with all of our favorites) - although I'm sure you will be able to find it at your library and there are always used copies available on the internet.
Take Me Out of the Bathtub and Other Silly Songs by Alan Katz
14 Popular tunes with new silly lyrics. The first song, "Take Me Out of the Bathtub" goes along with the tune of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame". I am always amazed at how much faster my daughter will memorize books when there is music involved. On of our favorites is "Stinky, Stinky Diaper Change" (goes with the tune of "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star").
Walter The Farting Dog by William Kotzwinkle
I think it's an unwritten rule of toddlers that they have to giggle anytime they hear a "potty" word. This book actually has a cute story in spite of what you may think about the title and there are actually 4 additional books in this series. PS - For some reason, my children prefer their daddy to read this to them over me (something about the sound effects).
Today I Feel Silly by Jamie Lee Curtis
This one is a new one for us. We own and adore another book by Jamie Lee Curtis. This book isn't necessarily silly, but does talk about emotions (an essential skill to work on with any child). Excited to read it.
What books are on your "silly" list?
I have been wanting to get the Walter books lol. OUr library even has the little farting dog . My boys would LOVE it! My girl not so much. Thanks for sharing your books this week.
