The simplest ideas are always the most fun.
Today I have two posts to share with you that feature some simple Olympic field events. We're sharing these posts as part of Camp Mom 2012 and as part of Kid Bloggers Go Olympics. Kid Bloggers Go Olympics is hosted by Rainy Day Mum, Sun Hats and Wellie Boots, and AngeliqueFelix.com and features 18 days of child centered Olympic fun!
The first post I want to share introduces our simple straw javelin throw. This idea isn't unique. The basic idea is to use a drinking straw and launch it through the air to see who can get it the furthest!
We grabbed some bowls to use and set up a point system. The closest bowl was worth 5 points, next one was worth 10, then 15, and on until 25. Our goal was to see who could throw the straw javelin the furthest and collect the most points.
We put some stickers on the wood floor to mark an easy spot to stand on and a hard spot to stand on for throwing. I picked the easy spot and my son picked the hard spot... and guess what? He got the most points!!
After a few turns, I took a seat on the floor and just watched my little guy play. I seriously never made one in. Depressing, huh? See the evidence below.
I've gotta say... this activity was so awesome. Seriously, other than losing miserably, it was fabulous. I could not believe how long my son wanted to play this super simple game. He was sooo proud of himself and loved trying to count his points with me or just trying to memorize simple math facts like 5+5 and 10+10.
We will be playing this again and again.
Have you done any other javelin activities or Olympic field event themed activities?
