Materials Needed for Fizzy Apple Painting:

- Baking pan (or craft tray)
- Baking soda
- Vinegar
- Pipette (or small eye dropper)
- Washable paint
- Paintbrush
- Paper (I like to use thick cardstock)
- (Optional) Contact Paper

Prep Ahead:
- Mix baking soda with paint (1 tbsp of baking soda with 2-3 tablespoons of paint) to make baking soda paint.
- Cut paper into apple shape.
- (Optional) Cover apple with contact paper to repeat again and again with the same apple.
Pro tip: Put your apples on a craft tray to contain the mess.

Instructions for Fizzy Apple Painting:
- Paint the apple with baking soda paint.
- Squeeze small drops of vinegar onto the paint.
- Watch them fizz and repeat!
- Let the paper dry. This might take awhile if your kids uses a lot of paint. I usually leave it out in the sun to dry!
- Grab another paper to try this again!
This fizzy apple painting science experiment with is fun for kids of all ages! I've done fizzy apple painting with toddlers, preschoolers, and elementary schoolers! It's also an awesome activity for a home daycare or preschool!

What do kids learn from fizzy apple painting?
As kids participate in this fizzy painting activity, they're learning a lot of things and building some new skills!
Skills that kids are building include:
- Language skills as they talk about the colors they see and as they observe the apples fizz.
- Color mixing and color recognition skills as they're mixing the colors and making new colors and as they're add paint to the apples.
- Fine motor skills as they hold the paint brush and as they squeeze and vinegar onto the apples using their jumbo eye dropper.
- Observational skills as they watch the apples fizz and they experiment with the paint.
- Prediction skills as they predict what will happen to the apples.
