We were introduced to the book Freight Train by Donald Crews this week.
We loved the vibrant colors, simple page design, and and the great review of the important train car names! (4 types of freight cars, caboose, tender, and the steam engine).
As you read this with your budding train enthusiast (which includes basically every 2-4 yr old boy that we know), hear are a few fun projects you could do.
And if you are still planning your St. Patrick's Day party for tomorrow, we have lots of fun ideas for games and art projects here.
I think we're going to be painting some Blarney Stones at our house later today and then see if we can get the "gift of gab" by kissing them. Since my son already talks a little too much, maybe we'll skip the kissing part? I'm thinking we might have to initiate a silent period at our house soon for 10 minutes a day or I might go insane. 🙂
PS- Do you have any favorite Train books that you read at your house? We are always looking for new ones!
We love this book. Thanks for the ideas.
My little guy LOOOVES "Freight Train" — I'll have to find the variation, thanks EJ. There's also an iPod app — basically the book with a few surprises and a terrific railway roots music soundtrack. Great for waiting rooms.
Just found your blog — great ideas, thanks.
Wonderful collection of idea for a great book!
You have to check out Crews' variation on the same book – amazon.com/Inside-Freight-Train-Donald-Crews/dp/0688170870 – "Inside Freight Train" – it's a heavy board book and you pull apart the pages to reveal the freight inside.
First, I love these project ideas. My little one LOVES trains and he'll have fun making some of these.
Second, I've awarded you the One Lovely Blog Award! Thanks for inspiring me. Here are the instructions if you'd like to pass it on…
