We're getting close to the end of the alphabet in our preschool co-op, and I've been trying to come up with some fun (and different ways) to identify letters. Today we showcased "V" and had so much fun with the following activity: Vacuuming V's
I wrote the letter V on several small pieces of scrap paper (if you child is old enough you could have them help with this part - simply writing and cutting out the Vs would take a long time) and scattered them on the floor. Then I gave each of our "V-Technicians" (or "V-Techs") a special vest (made of a brown paper bag which we decorated later) headphones, and a vacuum and let them "vacuum the V's". They had so much fun with this.
Of course there was some experimentation with suction . . .
and my floor is a lot cleaner than it has been in a long time (added bonus). A variation on this "game" would be to include several letters (in addition to V) and have your child try to pick up only the pieces with the letter V on them.
A perfect Sesame Street classic to complete this activity. Do any of you remember this?
Awesome idea! We already covered the letter V, but this is SO much better! We'll have to do this as review.
Great idea! My daughter and I have been working on the alphabet all year… one letter a week. Last week we were finishing up the letter "V". I typically read her a book about an animal that starts with that letter. We already covered vipers, voles and vultures. I didn't have any other animals, so we tried this instead! I placed the v's on my stairs (the area that needs the most vacuuming), but my daughter was very careful and only sucked up the letters! She had fun, thanx!
