Today we read One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish by Dr. Seuss and did several activities inspired by the book.
Here is a list of a few of the activities we tried. Scroll down for more details!
1. Made pink ink... drank it... and learned to wink!
2. Balanced fish on a dish
3. Played ring the gack
4. Graphed colored goldfish
5. Did a fish survey!
6. Found Clark in the park
Read below for more details!
1. Pink Ink
Materials Needed: red food coloring, sprite or clear juice, and a straw
Add a drop of food coloring into your juice or soda.
Mix it around!
Drink while you wink! 🙂
Winking is tricky!!
2. Balance Fish on a Dish (on your hand and your head)
Materials Needed: swedish fish, paper plate, a cute little kid 🙂
- Make a wish! We wished for swedish fish!
- Put your fish on a dish and walk around while trying to balance the fish!
You might need to sit down to balance the plate on your head... it is hard!!
If you're really good... have fish on dish balancing races!
3. Ring the Gack
Materials Needed: box, a couple of kitchen utensils, pipe cleaners, and a gack face (made out of cardstock and taped to the box)
- Make your rings using pipe cleaners
- Draw a gack face on a piece of cardstock and tape it to your box
- Stick some kitchen utensils through your box
- Throw your rings and try to "ring the gack!"
4. One Fish Two Fish Graphing
Materials Needed: handful of colored goldfish, large drawing paper, dot markers, markers
- Eat some fish
- Put a child-sized handful in a dish
- Make a graph format on large drawing paper
- Have child sort fish into colors
- Draw around each fish with a marker
- Count each group and paint the fish while you count
- Talk about which color has more/less fish
- Eat all the fish!
5. Fish Survey
Materials Needed: swedish fish, fish crackers, markers, paper,
- create a survey sheet
- put crackers and fish in a dish
- survey your favorite friends (we survey our stuffed animals!)
- practice asking questions (Which type of fish do you like better, swedish fish or fish crackers?)
- put tally marks on your paper with the responses
- count up the tallys
- talk about which fish is liked the most/least
6. Find Clark in the park
- Name your favorite stuffed animal, "Clark"
- Choose a room in your house and make it dark... and call it a park!
- Hide Clark in the dark... in the park
- Have your child try and find Clark in the dark in the park 🙂
- Next, have your child hide Clark in the dark in the park.
This game can go on forever!! If you're even more of an exciting parent than me ;)... go to the park in the dark and actually hide "Clark."
If you can't tell, we had a lot of fun goofing around this morning as we read this book.
So many fun ideas! Pinned!
Thanks Deb! I always love checking out your page.
Liz- we go through phases… right now I'm in the "pretend the house isn't a disaster phase"… easier to be ok with if I'm playing with the little guy 🙂
