Thought I'd include the rest of the fun we had fun with "pumpkins" after we made our Jack-O-Lantern shirts.
Pumpkin Pie Play Dough
After looking through several recipes I decided on this one from Pepper Paints. I liked it because it only called for one cup of flour, and I had all of the ingredients on hand. My daughter helped me make it prior to class (I wouldn't recommend doing this with more than one or two children, as you have to cook it over the stovetop and the dough needs to cool before handling). We pretended to make a pumpkin pie (which the kids loved - including pricking the "crust" with a fork and crimping the sides). The dough does smell good enough to eat, and one of the students did, but quickly tasted the salt and made no more attempts to do so.
Pumpkin Pudding
Using this simple recipe from Very Best Baking we were able to make and enjoy Pumpkin Pudding in 15 minutes. The kids loved measuring ingredients and taking turns turning the mixer on and off. We topped our pudding with whipped cream and sprinkles.
Felt Board Story - 5 Little Pumpkins
DLTK had printable pieces (which I mounted on felt) to go along with this story.
You can also use the pumpkins for this rhyme:
5 little pumpkins sitting on a fence
A farmer came walking by
Ha, ha, ha I'll take one home
And bake a pumpkin pie.
Remove one pumpkin, count the remaining pumpkins and start again (4 little pumpkins) - repeat until there are none pumpkins.
Song - Where is Pumpkin?
I'm sure I wasn't original in coming up with this song - but found inspiration from the giant bag of Candy Pumpkins I bought as a treat to end our class.
I gave each of the children two candy pumpkins to hold in each hand as we sang.
[Sung to the tune of Where is Thumbkin]
Where is pumpkin?
Where is pumpkin?
Here I am!
Here I am!
How are you today sir?
Very well and thank-you.
Run away.
Run away.
They LOVED this and requested to sing it multiple times.
