TODDLER ACTIVITY CALENDARS FOR PARENTS
Make your life easier with a plan!
The Year of Play is a simple ebook filled with a year of hands-on playful learning activities. It is created for kids ages 2-6 years old and includes 12 monthly calendars and 48 weekly activity plans!
I have a very shy 4 yo who will be entering Kinder this Fall and I have confidence in him, but I also struggle to feel confident that he’s going to be brave at school w/new teachers. He is very self aware and I think he finds more confidence when he’s around his friends at Preschool. What are some ways we can help him not be frightened or shy around other adults?
One thing that can help is to reach out to your school (or the teacher directly) and let them know about your child’s worries and ask if there is a way to meet with the teacher prior to the first day of school, or ask him/her to email you a photo of the teacher so your child can get used to knowing who they are and who they will see. There may also be one on your child’s school website. Will any of the same friends from preschool be at his new school? Other adults can feel scary until your child knows them. Helping acknowledge your child’s worries and letting them talk about them is a great first step. Help them “get to know” the adult in some way to make some connections can also help. If there is a way to email the teacher (or talk to someone who has had the teacher before) you can ask what her favorite book is or a few things about her so that your child starts to see her as a person, versus a scary adult.
I love the idea of focusing on self-help skills. It’s amazing the things our kids are able to do for themselves if we just let them!
Very true! It takes a lot of self control not to always help them!
