Do you record the goofy things that your kids say on a daily basis?
Where do you write them down?
I am a blogger (obviously :)) so I tend to record basically every aspect of our life on this blog or our family blog. I am constantly behind though... and not always nearby a computer to jot down the funny things that get blurted out at random moments.
My husband always has his phone with him... so he started a private Twitter account called @saidthekiddos where he types some of the silly (or profound) things our kids say. I seriously laugh out loud when I read some of the things he posts.
Every day I miss some key moments though... because I say to myself, "oh I'll write that on the blog or on Facebook later," but then by the time later rolls around, I've forgotten what I was going to write.
When Katie McCabe's niece started saying loads of precious things, she wanted to find a kids quotes journal for her niece's parents so that they could record everything. She couldn't find the perfect one, so she decided to make her own! My Angel Said What? A Journal for Quotes From Your Little One was her creation!
Katie sent me a copy of her cute journal to try out. To be honest, I was skeptical. I am not a huge fan of cutesy things and am totally not a baby book or scrapbook sort of person. I am also all about things being paperless, so if it isn't on the computer or my phone, then it is in the trash.
Since I had this new journal, I decided to challenge myself to use it!
Here are a few things I liked about the journal as I used it:
- It is a hardcover book and is very sturdy and durable
- Each page has a lot of space for writing about things your child has said... and there are a lot of pages!
- There are simple and sweet quotes about kids sprinkled throughout the book
- The journal can be used for multiple kids
- It isn't just a quote book- there are spots to record simple things about your kids as you interview them (favorite things, friends, milestones, accomplishments, etc.)
- It is compact and can easily be left on the kitchen counter and not take up too much space... or can be slipped into my diaper bag to bring with us on the go.
It was a hoot writing down some of the things that my kids said immediately after they said them... and so nice to have them all in one place... not in emails of text messages to my husband.
My toddler just started talking out of control within the past month, so I have a feeling we'll have a lot of entries from her soon too. Up to this point most entries have been by my 4 year old. I have enjoyed interviewing him about his friends and favorite things as we get ready to start a new school year.
If you stop by my house you'll most likely see this little journal sitting out on the counter with a pen right next to it. I really think it is cute... and useful, so I'm going to keep up my challenge and use it. With the pregnancy brain I have going on right now and the serious sleep deprivation ahead (with my newborn arriving soon), I will need all the help I can get to remember funny and sweet moments... especially when I am overtired and am focusing on anything BUT those happy instances.
If you're interested in getting your own little journal, head over to MyAngelSaidWhat.com to purchase a copy for yourself. This journal would also be a great addition to any baby shower gift.
Katie is also giving away one copy of My Angel Said What? to one of our awesome Toddler Approved readers!

My 5 year old is learning to read/spell and is so proud of himself! He reports every day on how to spell this word or that. The other day he said, 'Mommy do you know how to spell gnat? It's G-N-A-T! The G is solid' Me,'The G is silent.' No, Mommy, the G is SOLID!'

My 3 year old has finally started using the potty completely, and now my 2 year old (about to turn 2 this month) is learning how to use the potty from her big sister!! So amazing what they learn from each other! texana_414[at]yahoo.com
My husband and I were making animal sounds and then the girls were telling us what they were. I wispered to my husband laughing saying what does a fish do, and he laughs going bubble, bubble, bubble. My 3 year old jumps up and yells bubble bee!!!
I would love to have this! I have a 3 year old and a 2 year old, and they are always cracking me up. It would be with me at ALL times!!! My email is texana_414[at]yahoo.com
Recently I told my elder son, David, that he's nuts to which he replied "I'm not nuts! Acorns are nuts!" What could I do but laugh?
I have a 3&1/2 year old and a 1 month old and thus far have been messaging the awesome things my older boy says to my husband's facebook account. They tend to get lost in the other messages and reminders though so a book like this would be super handy! My email is jess.dp[at]gmail.com
When asked what fun things my son did at chool he said, "Recess, twice! Nothing else was fun. We had a lot of work to do." This was funny to me, because he's not even in kindergarten yet.
This would be great!
This grey and drizzly morning my 2 1/2 year old woke up and then spluttered. I asked, "Tommy, what's up? Are you getting a cold?" He answered, "Yes, the rain coughed me!" shannon@jozikaroo.com
This journal is a very good idea! I'd love to have one. My email address is shannon@jozikids.com
I'm not sure if this a true milestone but it's very cute. My son recently started signing along with songs. We first noticed it when Bob Marley's Three Liitle Birds was playing. He sings "don't worry bout a thang.". So cute!

I think I could probably use two or three of these. My toddler is out of control funny sometimes!
This is such a cute journal, and a great idea. I am always forgetting things they say that are hysterical.

I keep meaning to start something like this… I feel like I'm missing so much by not writing things down. What a great idea!

And a recent milestone, my 6 month old just broke her second tooth!
My twin boys started preschool today. After we had loaded the car and were finally on our way, I asked them if they were ready for school. One of my boys said, "Yeah mama, we need music, rock n roll kind." He then proceeded to fist pump and rock out all the way to preschool–as if he were totally gettign himself pumped for school!
Huge milestone (for the son of an avid/obsessed hunter dad): My 4 year old walked all the way in, about 2 miles, to help his Dad carry out a harvested elk. His dad was one proud guy 🙂
I would love this! carlsonfam06[at]gmail.com
After my 11 month old sneezed, my 4 year old said, "Mom! Sis just blessed you'd on me!!" 🙂
ksworwood[at]yahoo.com
I'm always writing down the stuff my 4 year old says, but I write it down on whatever is near at the moment! So I have random quotes everywhere! This would be awesome for keeping them all organized! Thanks for the giveaway!
ksworwood[at]yahoo.com
Recently I said to my four year old, "stop growing, wouldya?". She replied, "I can't! And I am not a wouldya!"
I have a 2 year old and 4 year old-something worth writing is said daily! I need this book! Julysky04[at]yahoo.com
My daughter answers "cantaloupe" to everything. She thinks it's hilarious! Her new favorite phrase is "uh oh cantaloupe!" my email is nutty82@aol.com
Last night at dinner, my daughter whined she didn't want the potatoes. After being told not to whine, she replied, "But I have to talk."
Wish I could remember all the "profound" things my daughter has said. This journal would be a great way to do that. annebauer01(at)yahoo(dot)com
One of my daughter's milestones lately is that she loves to "exercise" She loves to do jumping jacks, push ups and her hula hoop, even if they aren't perfect, she tries and is so cute doing it!! 🙂
Just this morning, I started preschooling my daughter at home and she was working on a coloring page and when she was using the brown to color the tree trunk, she said "Mommy, poo poo is this color!" I immediately grabbed a piece of paper to write that down so I wouldn't forget. I couldn't help but laugh and tell her that she was right. 🙂
This would be great!! thesummers09[at]yahoo.com
And lastly a milestone…My daughter is learning how to skip. With her arms flailing all over the place, it's the most hysterical thing ever… 🙂
Funny things my kid says…
The other day my 2yo and I were cuddling, she touches my face and says softly: Pretty Mommy…
Me, melting: Oh, sweetie, you're pretty too!
We gaze at each other, have a moment.
Me: I love you, Anna.
Anna, gazing back: I love muffins, Mommy.
It was all a ruse. 😉
What an amazing idea! I've been emailing myself cute things so I don't forget any, but how nice to have them all in one place to show to my daughter when she's older. 🙂
Shoot, I just realized I didn't enter my email. Sorry! For this and the next 2 entries, the email is Elizabeth(dot)Arnold(at)yahoo(dot)com. Thanks. 🙂
