Last Tuesday morning we headed to Walmart bright and early to purchase the special Monsters University 2-Disc Blu-ray + DVD + Infinity Figure Combo Pack. My 2.5-year-old is a little bit obsessed with the characters from Disney's Monsters University and could not WAIT to have her special shopping trip with me to go and buy the DVD along with some movie night snacks. She even managed to convince me to buy her an Art action figure after cuddling every comfy stuffed animal in the toy department and deciding she wanted something to play with instead of just cuddling.
Our trip to buy the movie made me remember our special family excursion (with just the big kids) to go see Monsters University over the summer. It was my daughters first time at the movie theater and her excitement was contagious! She didn't actually make it through the whole movie... so I was also totally stoked to FINALLY get the Monsters U DVD so that I could watch the whole thing and see how it ended. 🙂
First movie!
In preparation for our Monsters U Movie Night my daughter helped me plan a Monster themed preschool class. The kiddos painted and glued to create their own giant Monster crafts and then we used them to decorate our house a bit for our movie night.
We also stuck up a few of our colorful paper plate monster crafts.
Our family movie nights have to involve a treat of some sort... so before we watched the show, we made sure to make our own special monster treat. I like to think it was somewhat of a healthy snack since it included pretzels, but mostly it was a treat!
Ooey Gooey Scary Pretzel Bites
I am totally addicted to caramel, chocolate, and pretzels and my kids are obsessed with Wilton candy eyeballs... so we combined them all to make some monster treats! The treats are not really that scary actually... but it sure was scary how fast they all disappeared once we made them! Yum, yum!
(little dude was pretending to be scared 🙂 loved his "scared face")
Here are the ingredients we got from Walmart...
Here's how to make our scary pretzel bites...
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and then place several pretzels on a greased baking sheet.
Stick several Rolos candies on top of each group of pretzels close to one another. My kids were awesome helpers with this part... and they loved trying to sneak bites of Rolos when I wasn't looking.
Place the baking pan in the oven for 5-7 minutes so that the Rolos can melt.
Once the pretzel bites are pulled out of the oven, use a spoon to push the chocolate Rolos down a bit so that they collapse on top of the pretzels in a chocolatey clump.
Add some candy eyeballs and some marshmallow "teeth" to the melted gooey chocolate and then let the treats cool. Once hardened, move them off the baking pan to a serving plate! Ours didn't last for long because the kids and I devoured them pretty quickly.
After our treat was made, it was time for our Monsters University family movie night! We were cozy in pajamas and grabbed some pillows and blankets and had fun eating some treats/snacks. My daughter had to bring her special Monsters U toy along too.
I have a feeling this won't be the last time we have a family movie night with these snacks or this show.
I love your monsters craft and how each one them really expressed their creativity! Yummy snack too…those Wilton eyeballs are so fun.
Thanks Brandie!!
How fun! Love the monster craft the kids created!
That is a really cute idea! I love how you decorate and create snacks to go along with the theme. I hope your children continue to enjoy this even when they grow up into teens!
