Why introduce monsters to preschoolers?
Monsters are a popular Halloween theme! I love them because they can be silly OR scary. I prefer to focus on silly and cute monsters with toddlers and preschoolers. You can keep it playful by reading silly monster books, like Go Away, Big Green Monster, and then trying some monster themed activities to get them excited!
This monster sticker activity is quick to set up. Stickers are also an excellent tool to use to help kids build their fine motor skills!

- Easel (or a wall)
- Eyeball stickers (this roll lasts FOREVER)
- Monster picture books (scroll down to see our favorites)
- Paper (I like to use colored cardstock)
- Painters tape
- Sharpie (black)

How to set up this Monster Sticker Activity for kids:
- Start by sticking some colorful paper on an easel or your wall. Use painters tape so you don't mess up your paint.
- Next, draw some monster mouthes with a marker on each piece of paper.
- Finally, cut off a few segments of eyeball stickers from your eyeball sticker roll.
- Now you're ready to play!

Instructions for this Monster Sticker Activity for kids:
- Place a some eyeball stickers near your easel or papers that are stuck on the wall.
- Encourage kids to add some eyeball stickers to the papers to create their monsters.
- Have kids count the eyeballs as they decorate the monster. You can also talk about the sizes, types of eyeballs, and directions to help build vocabulary while you do this sticker activity.

Why are stickers good for building fine motor skills?
- Peeling off stickers helps kids strengthen the small muscles in their hands and fingers, especially the pincer grip (thumb and index finger), which is really important for things like holding a pencil.
- Positioning and placing stickers onto their monster helps kids with hand-eye coordination as they carefully place the stickers where they want.
- Manipulating stickers in general also boosts bilateral coordination (Bilateral coordination is when both sides of the body work together to do something.) Kids will often use one hand to hold the sticker sheet while the other peels and places the stickers.
