We went to the Jelly Belly Factory a few weeks ago and we are slowly making it through the giant bag of "belly flops" that we bought. "Belly flops" are the reject jelly beans that are sooo yummy but some of them look pretty weird!
I always love finding a way to pair eating treats with learning, so we decided to do some color matching with our jelly beans while we did some taste testing!
Supplies Needed: jelly beans, white cardstock, contact paper, painters tape, colored pom poms, bowl, and a marker
To set up I divide a piece of cardstock in half with marker and made two sides... "Like" and "Don't like." Then I stuck contact paper on top of the cardstock, sticky side out, and put it on the wall.
Next we chose 10 jelly beans to try and we found 10 corresponding pom poms in similar colors!
Then we started tasting!
My daughter would pick a jelly bean from the bowl and choose the pom pom that had a matching color. Then she would try the jelly bean. If she liked it, she stuck the pom pom on the "like" board... and if she didn't, she stuck it on the "Don't like" side. Since we stuck the pom poms to sticky contact paper... they stayed!
The likes outweighed the dislikes... which surprised me since my daughter is so picky. The end result was that we found maybe three out of ten jelly beans that she hated and had to spit out... and the rest she enjoyed!
I had so much fun snacking on these little treats with her while matching colors too!
Have you ever taste tested jelly beans with your kids?
Do you have any other fun activities, crafts, or snacks that use jellybeans? If so, pass them along!
In addition to colors, we've also been learning about shapes this week! Have you entered our current Away We Go! A Shape and Seek Book Giveaway yet? Away We Go! Hi! As a mom of seemingly similar aged kids as yours (5 1/2, 3 and twins 4 months) and a former teacher, I just wanted to say how much I have enjoyed your blog and how many activities my family has done based on ideas from here. Thank you! A quick off-topic question: do you have any sleep-training book or method recommendations? We settled in with a nice routine with our oldest two, but twins is proving to be a different ball game………Any thoughts/ideas are appreciated!

Jessica! Thanks so much for taking a moment to comment. With my kids I have read Healthy Sleep Habits Happy Child by Marc Weissbluth. It is a great resource and shares a lot of ideas. I think I recall a section on multiples, but can't remember. I would recommend checking it out!
