I have enjoyed reading about how Kristina has been focusing on a "Christ Centered Christmas". Today, I thought I'd share one way we try to bring the spirit of Christmas into our home.
Setting up the Nativity is one of my favorite Christmas traditions. For as long as I can remember it would be the last thing we did on Christmas Eve (my parents wanted us to remember why we celebrated Christmas as we drifted off to sleep).
My mom created a simple script that includes carols and text briefly describing each of the characters of the Nativity.
We separate the parts and put them in a box (to be passed around by the youngest member of the family).
Each person takes a turn selecting a part and reading it aloud -
then we all sing the selected song as they choose where to place the corresponding nativity piece.
This is a tradition that all 5 of my siblings and I continue to carry on in all corners of the United States (and in between) on Christmas Eve. It is a such a nice break from the commercialization of Christmas and an easy way to teach our children (and remind ourselves) the true meaning of Christmas.
I've linked the text and songs here.
Love this! Saw you from "Christ Centered Christmas" as posted by Jamerrill Stewart's page. I am going to use this with some adaptations for our family. This is way better than the Jesse Tree stuff in my opinion! Thanks for sharing!
Do you have directions on how to make the nativity characters? Lori Thanks!!
I just came across this post on Pinterest. Love the idea. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Rebekah, and yes – that Nativity set is homemade (using styrofoam cones & balls, nylons, felt and straight pins).
Such a beautiful tradition! Your nativity set is adorable. Did you make it?
