Train crafts just don't get easier than this one! We love crafting but I also don't have much time to waste when it comes to prepping materials and planning activities!
We did this easy train craft as part of our preschool book club to go along with The Little Engine That Could by Watty Piper. Kids just love the message and story of The Little Engine That Could and I also love it because I grew up reading it.
MATERIALS NEEDED FOR TRAIN CRAFT:
- colored cardstock (cut into small rectangles)
- foam circles (preferably foam stickers)
- white cardstock
- markers or crayons
- white glue
- engine template (we used a train engine outline at the bottom of this post)
First I cut several rectangles out of colored cardstock.
Then I cut an engine out for each child (older kids can cut their own)
Next I drew a train track on each white piece of cardstock.
The kids chose their favorite colored rectangles and a blue engine (just like in The Little Engine That Could) and glued their train pieces onto the railroad track.
Then they added the sticker foam wheels.
Lastly they drew steam coming out of their engines using crayons and markers.
The kids loved talking about the different colored wheels and train cars as they created their masterpieces.
We also made a simple train themed treat and played a train name game to go along with The Little Engine That Could.
