As soon as I saw this set of US President Cards (free printable) I knew I'd have to print and laminate a set for our use.
Each card has the name of the president, a drawing of him (which your child can color in) as well as which number president he was/is. We've been focusing on numbers lately and decided to use these to practice "counting to 44"..
Although there are several ways you could do this, we found it best to make a number strip and match each President with his corresponding number. I broke it down into 3 number strips (1 - 15, 16 - 30, 31 - 44), and focused on 1 number strip and the presidents corresponding to it at a time (so it wouldn't be so overwhelming). We'd mix up the set of cards, then take turns picking a President, practice his name and match his number to the appropriate place on the number strip. Once we had correctly placed each of the Presidents in order we pointed to each and "counted to 44".
How are you celebrating Presidents' Day or teaching your children the meaning of it? What other ways would you use these cards?
What a great activity. My preschooler loves to count right now and our family is starting a presidents unit this week! thanks for the fun idea!
What a great President's Day activity! I love how you took something that could have been very overwhelming and broke down the task to make it more manageable for a young learner! I will probably use the cards in a similar way with my preschooler. I just shared this idea on my blog and linked back to you!
