Supplies Needed
Here are the simple supplies you'll need for this doily art project.
- Heart doilies
- Watercolor paints
- Paint brush
- Craft tray or pan (we get our metal pans at the Dollar Store)
- Clear Tape
- Easel, wall or something to stick it to
- Water cup
- Jumbo dropper
Prep Ahead
Here are a few things you'll want to prep ahead for kids.
- Set up watercolor paint on a craft tray to contain the mess.
- Fill up a water cup with water and leave it nearby with a dropper.

How to set up this Doily Art Project
- Tape the heart doilies to whatever surface kids are going to paint on. I taped them to my outdoor easel.
- Place the watercolors, paintbrushes, and water cup nearby.
How to do this Doily Art Project
- Encourage kids to use the watercolor paint to paint the doilies. It's that easy!

- Let them experiment to discover what happens when they use more or less water with the paint.

- PRO TIP- I use a dropper to squirt the watercolors with water so that kids don't have to clean their brushes as much or add water to the paint themselves. This makes the art activity much easier!

- This is a great collaborative art activity. Kids can work together to paint the doilies and mix colors.

- This is a process art activity, so the goal is for kids to explore the painting process and experiment! Let them experiment with colors and mixing and see how it turns out.
- Once they're done painting their doilies, hang it to dry! You can use their art for decorations or even to make a Valentine heart banner. I hung ours up with clothespins and twine.
