Toddlers love exploring colors through hands on active activities. For awhile my daughter called every object green, even if it was pink or red... but now she's starting to correctly identify colors as we spend more and more time learning and playing with colors.
I don't do drill and kill exercises with flashcards to teach color names. Instead we play games and do art projects that give us natural opportunities to identify colors and practice saying their names.
Today I am sharing six of our favorite ways to learn and play with colors. Click on the links below to go read more details about each activity.
In addition to learning about colors through play, we also love to read books about colors! Here are a few of our favorite books that teach about colors. Click on the links to read more about each book.
Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? by Eric Carle

Freight Train is always a favorite color book, and we also love Blue Hat, Green Hat (funny book!)
