Halloween is over and we have a large stash of candy hanging out in our house. There are a lot of things you can do with leftover Halloween candy... eat it, donate it, give it away, bake with it, hide it, or learn with it!
We like to do a little bit of all of the things mentioned above... but today I wanted to focus on preschool learning activities you can do with candy!
Candy Sorting- We love to sort candy corn or just make huge piles of our Halloween candy and sort them by type, color, Brand, letters they start with it, etc.
Sequencing- It is fun to use an autumn candy mix to sequence and make patterns, or you can just use a pile of Halloween candy and make a pattern. For example, "M&Ms, Snickers, Tootsie roll, M&Ms, Snickers, Tootsie roll.
M&Ms Corn Roll- This is an awesome Fall activity using M&Ms. I like to make these game boards for Thanksgiving day so the kids have something fun to do. You could easily use skittles, starbursts, or other treats for this. This is such a great way to practice identifying numbers and counting.
M&M Turkey Activity- M&Ms, Skittles, Reeses Pieces... really any candy or snack that is round could be used to have fun with this activity! We worked on patterns during this turkey creation.
Taste Testing Activity- For this activity we worked on simple graphing using jelly beans. You could try this with any candy you want to compare.
Make a candy store- This is one of my favorite activities. The kids work on skills like turn taking and counting and we have even tied in a little writing!
Pumpkin Patch Candy Math Game- Pumpkins are still fun to play with in November. This math activity allows you to practice number recognition and counting. We even shared how we adapted it for the alphabet in this post.
These 7 activities are just some of the few ways that you can play and learn with candy... if you don't eat it all first! 🙂
Do you have any other favorite ways to learn and play with candy?
Here are three other favorites...
