What is a simple flower craft to try with kids?
There are so many different types of flower crafts you can try! We loved these pop out flowers because they're pretty easy to make and allow for a lot of creativity!

- Craft tray
- Green paint
- Hot glue gun (or white glue)
- Muffin tin liners (we used pastel colors)
- Oil pastels or crayons
- Paint brush
- Wooden dowels (or small sticks)
- White cardstock paper
- Scissors

A simple guide for busy parents to strengthen their kids' fine motor skills at home.
How to set up this Flower Craft Activity
- Pre-cut the flower shapes from the cardstock paper.
- Put out oil pastels and pre-cut flowers out on a tray! Now you're ready to get started.
Flower Craft Activity Instructions
- Color the Petals- Set out the oil pastels or crayons and let your child color each petal however they like. There's no right or wrong way to do this! Scribbles, stripes, and solid colors all turn out beautifully. This is the step kids usually enjoy most, so give them plenty of time to make it their own.
- Paint the Stem- While the petals are drying (or at any point before assembly), have your child paint a wooden dowel or small stick green using the craft tray and paintbrush. Let it dry completely before moving on.
- Add the Flower Center- Take a muffin tin liner and glue it to the center of the flower using a hot glue gun (an adult's job) or white glue (great for little hands to help with). The paper liner's ruffled edge makes a perfect flower center and adds a fun pop of pastel color.
- Decorate the Center- Let kids fill the muffin liner with a sprinkle of sequins, gems, pom-poms, or anything sparkly you have on hand. This is a great fine-motor activity as they place each piece inside the liner.
- Attach the Stem- Flip the flower over and hot glue the painted dowel to the back, running it up behind one of the petals for extra support. Hold it in place for a few seconds until the glue sets.
- Let It Dry and Display- Once everything is dry, your flower is ready to show off! Stick it in a planter, a garden bed, or a vase indoors for an instant spring decoration.
How can I adapt this activity?
Add paint or another favorite art tool to change this up! The skies the limit. Let kids use their creativity and whatever they have on hand.
Tips for Success
- Let the coloring be imperfect. Scribbly, colorful petals are part of the charm — resist the urge to "help" too much.
- Use a glue gun for durability if the flowers will live outside, since white glue can weaken in humidity or rain.
- Mix and match liner colors so each flower has its own personality.
- Make it a batch activity. These are easy to assembly-line if you're making one for every kid in a class or playgroup.
This craft is simple enough for toddlers with a little help, and independent enough for older kids to run with on their own. However they turn out, they make the sweetest handmade spring decor — whether displayed in a vase, propped in a flower pot, or given as a gift.
