What do you like to do on the Fourth of July with toddlers?
On the Fourth of July we always like to find a few simple ways to help the kids have some patriotic fun that doesn’t require too much effort on our part. Although toddlers don’t really understand the reason for celebrating the Fourth of July, you can introduce it to them by teaching them some simple new words and sharing some of your favorite traditions with them.
What new words can you teach toddlers around the Fourth of July?
Some of our favorite new words to teach around the Fourth of July are flag, fireworks, America, star, parade, and the colors red, white, and blue! For older toddlers you can also teach them the word celebration and talk about how we celebrate America on the Fourth of July.

How can you organize toddler activities for the 4th of July?
One of my favorite ways to get things prepared for the Fourth of July is to invite a few friends over and have each family bring the materials for one activity or prep one activity (or snack)! It spreads out the work and makes a get together so much more fun!
These activities can work for older kids too! Big kids (8+) can be assigned to be helpers. Littler kids (3+) can have just as much fun as the toddlers with these activities!
Set up three or four stations around your house or yard with a couple different activities for kids to gravitate towards, OR bring one activity out at a time and see how long kids have fun with it! Sometimes I will plan a dozen activities for a get together with friends and the kids have so much fun with the first one, we never make it to any others!
Whatever you do for the Fourth of July, make sure that the activities you pick to set up are ones that you feel comfortable doing with kids and that you have tried out ahead of time. A party day is never the time to try something new! We always do a testing day with my kids ahead of time to work out any kinks and make sure we have all of the materials!
