I know several of you have probably done this before... but if not, I totally recommend making one of these. Some might call it a guitar 😉 but today we're calling it a fiddle because we're talking about the nursery rhyme "Hey Diddle Diddle."
Materials Needed: small cereal box (or big if you want a big fiddle), paint, paintbrush, rubber bands (thinner ones stretch better, but try out different ones... it is cool to see the differences in the sounds), scissors.
Directions:
1. Cut out an oval in the back of the cereal box.
2. Paint the cereal box.
3. Let it dry.
4. Stretch the rubber bands around the box and put them across the hole.
5. Start making music! We watched this Sesame Street version of Hey Diddle Diddle and played along using our fiddle.
We wrote out the words to the rhyme to that we could point at them when we sang. We also made picture word cards for the characters/objects in the rhyme and matched them to the words.
If I was smart, I would laminate each rhyme poster so that we could stick and re-stick the picture cards to them... but I don't have the patience to laminate or use contact paper today... so instead we pull them off (ripping a little paper each time) and then re-stick them!
I also printed out these awesome nursery rhyme cards to put on a ring. These I am going to laminate. What a great free resource!
